Guided Hikes around the Coachella Valley with Phillip Ferranti: November 7 - Mecca Hills Join us at 9 AM for a beautiful easy 5 mile hike. Meet and carpool from the Albertson's shopping center in Palm Desert at 42185 Washington Street. Park in the first two rows in front of the Postal Connection. All participants should dress appropriately and bring water. Provided by the Stewards of the Fred Nature Preserve. Join us each month for a unique look at our local environment with special guest leaders and topics. Nature Walk: Saturday, November 21, 2015 8 AM Bear Creek Wash Walkout - Katie Barrows Join us for an easy, 1 to 2 mile hike at the Top of the Cove. Meet at the Cove Oasis/Top of the Cove parking lot at 8 AM Difficulty: Easy, 1 to 2 miles Time commitment: 1.5 to 2 hours Dog friendly or not: Sorry, dogs are not allowed on this nature walk Notes about the hike: We will explore one of the easy trails at the Top of the Cove, gateway to the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument. Did you know there are water efficient and beautiful desert plants growing here that you can use in your landscape to save water, attract hummingbirds, and other wildlife.

Flag Football Programs:   The City of La Quinta has partnered with the YMCA of the Desert and Friday Night Lights to offer more exciting flag football. The Certified Farmers' Market returns Sunday, October 4!   Enjoy the lifestyle of Old Town, and the heart-and-soul of La Quinta, which is Main Street.  The Certified Sunday Farmers' Market returns this Sunday, October 4 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., providing one of the nicest experiences in La Quinta to sip a cup of coffee, enjoy brunch or lunch, browse the boutiques, select farm fresh produce and so much more.  The popular weekly Farmers' Market features the freshest produce, herbs, honey, nuts, cheese, fresh cut flower bouquets, fresh baked breads, fresh meats, live chef demonstrations, knife sharpening, live entertainment and more.  The Farmers' Market will continue every Sunday through May 29, 2016. The first story time of the new season is Sunday, October 4, from 10 a.m. - 10:30 am. Stop by the La Quinta Public Library booth (8 a.m. to 11 a.m.) for a free book and join story time.Story time with Ms. Sarah includes a great mix of stories, song and movement and is intended for toddlers and elementary school age children.  Ms. Sarah will introduce and teach kids about all the hard work that goes into Farmers' Market - like reading about dairy farms, animals, farming equipment, healthy living and cooking, agriculture and more. It's 30 minutes of playing with bubbles, reading both fun and educational stories and works of nonfiction, singing classics like Old McDonald Had A Farm and closing with a few games and a big parachute.
