It's Your Library
The La Quinta Public Library offers FREE programs for the whole family. Weekly story times, monthly book clubs, and special programs are just a few of the activities you can find at the Library.

Tween Book Club
(9-12 years old)

Meetings are held Tuesdays at 4 p.m. from February 10 - April 28. Registration is required at the Children's Reference Desk.

Celebrating Black History Month

Hoop Dance
This uplifting aerobic workout combines the toning benefits of cardio with a mind body connection while improving hand-eye coordination, flexibility, and core strength. No experience required. 
Participants are asked to bring a hula hoop or purchase one from the instructor for $20.

Music, Movement, & Stories with Ms. Sarah!
Join Ms. Sarah for Music, Movement, & Stories! This program is for children 3 - 5 years old (potty trained) who can sit independently, listen to stories, and follow our Storytime Leader! We welcome the parent & child to attend this fun program together!

Provided by the Stewards of the Fred Wolff Nature Preserve. Join us each month for a unique look at our local environment with special guest leaders and topics.
Nature Walk for Kids and Families:
Saturday, February 14 - Nature Rocks! Let's explore Geology
9am, Easy, 3 miles

Nature Walk:
Saturday, February 21 - Birds and Backyard Habitat
8am, Easy, 3 miles

All Nature Walks are Easy and begin at the Shade Shelter on the Bear Creek Nature Trail at the corner of Calle Ensenada and Avenida Montezuma in the La Quinta Cove.

Nature Hike:
Saturday, February 14 - Bear Creek Palm Oasis - Jim Smith/ Cam Barrows

Strenuous, 9 miles, 2,000'+ elevation gain; 5+ hours to Bear Creek Palm Oasis and back beginning at 8 am. Meet at the Cove Oasis parking lot.

Guided Hikes around the Coachella Valley with Philip Ferranti:
Saturday, February 7 - Mecca Hills       Easy, 5 Miles
Meet at 9am and carpool from the Albertson's Shopping Center Palm Desert South Parking Lot (2 rows in front of Postal Connection, 42185 Washington St.) for a beautiful easy 5 mile hike. All participants should dress appropriately and bring water.
Walk with the Mayor

Join Mayor Linda Evans for a walk in beautiful La Quinta.

  • Meet at La Quinta Park Pavilion (Corner of Adams and Blackhawk Way)
  • Wear comfortable clothes and bring water

4th Annual Desert Youth Olympics

Grab those sneakers and join in on the fun at the 4th Annual Desert Youth Olympics. Children ages 3 to 8 will have the opportunity to compete in the 20 yard dash, long jump, hurdles, and more. Medals will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes. Please wear comfortable athletic clothing and shoes.
Age groups 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 (Boys and Girls Divisions)
  • Registration - $10
  • Register before Friday, March 6 and receive an event t-shirt
  • Onsite registration will also be accepted
  • Registration/ Check-in begins at 8 a.m.
  • Event begins at 9 a.m.

Y Rookies T-Ball

The YMCA of the Desert is offering Y Rookies baseball at Colonel Mitchell Paige Middle School. Participants will learn the fundamentals of baseball in a non-competitive environment. Kids will play games and run drills that will build fundamentals. All participants receive a shirt and award.
  • Y Rookies ages 3-5, $90
  • Season: Saturdays, March 21 - May 16, 11 a.m.
  • Registration opens Tuesday, February 9
