Day of the Young Child

4th Annual Desert Youth Olympics
Saturday, March 21 @ 9 a.m.

Grab those sneakers and join in on the fun at the 4th Annual Desert Youth Olympics. Children ages 3 to 8 will have the opportunity to compete in the 20 yard dash, long jump, hurdles, and more. Medals will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes. Please wear comfortable athletic clothing and shoes.
Age groups 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 (Boys and Girls Divisions)
  • Location: Colonel Mitchell Paige Middle School Fields
  • Registration - $10
  • Register before Friday, March 6 and receive an event t-shirt
  • Onsite registration will also be accepted
  • Registration/ Check-in begins at 8 a.m.

Police Safety Fair
Saturday, March 14 @ 9 a.m.

Join the City of La Quinta, La Quinta Police, and Desert Recreation District for a FREE Safety Fair which will include Police and Fire vehicles, K-9 demonstration, bicycle obstacle course, safety education, vendor information booths, raffle, prizes and much more.
FREE Child Car Safety Seat reviews will be available ***By appointment only.*** Each review will take approximately 30 minutes. Please call 760.863.8034 to schedule your appointment - These fill up fast, so please call today!

Walk with the Mayor
Saturday, March 14 @ 7 a.m.

Everyone is  invited to join Mayor Linda Evans for a  walk in beautiful North La Quinta. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and get exciting information about our beautiful city. This is a walk you definitely want to tell your friends and family about.


Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. And don't forget to bring some water.  Walk is approximately 3 miles and will meet at the Colonel Mitchell Paige parking lot.

Nature Walks and Guided Hikes


Provided by the Stewards of the Fred Wolff Nature Preserve. Join us each month for a unique look at our local environment with special guest leaders and topics.
Nature Walk for Kids and Families:
Saturday, March 14 - Nature Scavenger Hunt
9am, Easy, 3 miles

Nature Walk:
Saturday, March 21 - Birds and Backyard Habitat
8am, Easy, 3 miles

All Nature Walks are Easy and begin at the Shade Shelter on the Bear Creek Nature Trail at the corner of Calle Ensenada and Avenida Montezuma in the La Quinta Cove.

Nature Hikes:
Saturday, March 14 - Cove to Lake Cahuilla

Moderate, 6.5 miles, 900'+ elevation gain; 3-4 hours beginning at 8 am. Meet at the Cove Oasis parking lot.

Saturday, March 10 - Tuesday Morning Hike with Bill Baker

Moderate, 2 -3 hour hike, covers 4 miles or less and 800 feet elevation gain beginning at 8 am. Meet at the Cove Oasis parking lot.

Guided Hikes around the Coachella Valley with Philip Ferranti:
Saturday, February 7 - White Water Canyon, Pacific Trail Loop      
Easy, 5 Miles

Meet at 9am and carpool from the Albertson's Shopping Center Palm Desert South Parking Lot (2 rows in front of Postal Connection, 42185 Washington St.) for a beautiful easy 5 mile hike. All participants should dress appropriately and bring water.
Annual Egg Hunt
Saturday, April 4 @ 9 a.m. SHARP
Egg Hunt

Grab your friends and a basket for the City of La Quinta's Annual Egg Hunt! Children, up to age 10, are welcome to participate in the egg-cellent event. Look for candy and toy filled eggs scattered around. A chalk drawing contest begins at 9:15 a.m. with a special guest judge Gloria Rodriguez, anchor and producer of the morning news at KMIR6. A special visit from the Easter Bunny is planned too! Also don't forget to check those eggs for a special golden ticket! Turn it in for a special prize!
  • Bounce Houses

  • Bring a basket to collect eggs
